Steve Jobs Taking a Leave of Absence

It looks like everyone's favorite entrepreneur is more sick than anyone anticipated :( Here's hoping Jobs has a speedy recovery! Go download some iTunes or something and show your support. Apple has issued a statement saying that Steve Jobs is taking a leave of absence due to health reasons. Steve Jobs sent out a letter to today saying that his previously-explained health problems are "more complex" than he at first thought, and that he plans to return in June. In the meantime Steve will be around for major strategic decisions, and Tim Cook (Apple's Chief Operating Officer) will take over the day-to-day in his absence. AAPL is down around 8% in after hours trading.

The full letter is below: Team,I am sure all of you saw my letter last week sharing something very personal with the Apple community. Unfortunately, the curiosity over my personal health continues to be a distraction not only for me and my family, but everyone else at Apple as well. In addition, during the past week I have learned that my health-related issues are more complex than I originally thought. In order to take myself out of the limelight and focus on my health, and to allow everyone at Apple to focus on delivering extraordinary products, I have decided to take a medical leave of absence until the end of June.I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for Apple's day to day operations, and I know he and the rest of the executive management team will do a great job. As CEO, I plan to remain involved in major strategic decisions while I am out. Our board of directors fully supports this plan.I look forward to seeing all of you this summer. Steve

This honestly comes as quite a surprise, especially given that Jobs just recently issued that note which seemed to be aimed at quelling fears of this exact situation bubbling up. In that letter -- sent just last week -- Jobs stated that a hormone imbalance was to cause for a recent noticeable weight loss, but that the ailment was being treated in a "relatively simple and straightforward" manner. This clearly calls that info out, and raises a number of questions about whether or not Apple and Jobs knew there was something more serious happening. Of course, this story puts the latest exclamation mark in a sentence strewn with flare-ups of news over Jobs' health which began with his gaunt appearance at last year's WWDC.

Though Jobs battled pancreatic cancer in 2004, as far as we know he has been free of the since a complicated known as the "whipple procedure," and this latest statement makes no connection otherwise. One note of interest is that this isn't the first time Tim Cook has taken the reins at Apple. He held the spot in 2004 while Jobs was treated for and recovered from the aforementioned cancer. (From Engadget.com)

SEE VIDEO Christina Applegate: I posed nude before mastectomy

Actress wanted record of what her boobs looked like

Christina Applegate posed in the buff before getting her breasts removed.

The actress, 36, had a double mastectomy in August after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

‘I did my first and last nudie photoshoot at home,’ she says.

‘I made sure that I have close-up photographs of them from every angle, so I can remember them.’

Christina initially had doubts about the procedure because of her mum's poor mastectomy 30 years ago.

She will begin reconstructive in the next few weeks to get implants.

‘The only thing I've ever seen was my mom,’ she tells Oprah Winfrey. ‘That was in the 70s and they didn't do a very good job.

'I'm thinking, “Oh, my God, I'm going to be butchered and I'm never going to love that part of me again.”

‘But I did a lot of research and they can make some pretty boobies, some very pretty boobies.’

Emmy Awards Cancelled

Emmys_2 The major television networks and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences made a joint announcement Monday that they are canceling the Emmy Awards. Last night's 60th annual ceremony will be the last for the veritable Hollywood institution.

The decision came, insiders said, after record low ratings for last night's ceremony came in. The Emmys were not only demolished by Sunday Night , but also came in behind a re-run of Sunday morning's "Meet the Press" on MSNBC and an open heart on Discovery Health.

"It's time to accept that a celebration of the best TV has to offer is not appealing to TV viewers," the major networks said in a joint statement. "The ratings for last night's Emmys were even worse than for 'Mad Men' and '30 Rock' and all the other critically acclaimed, hugely unpopular shows that won the big awards."

Though it has been officially canceled, some in Hollywood are working on ways to keep the Emmys alive. In addition to lobbying efforts to get HBO or Showtime to pick up the Awards, Fox is proposing a new version of the show where celebrities would win Emmys by competing in a series of events drawn from game shows "The Wall," "Moment of Truth," and "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?"
