Jealous killer William Balfour

Jennifer Hudson's brother-in-law allegedly killed the actress' mother, brother and nephew in a jealous rage.

William Balfour - who was officially charged with murdering Darnell Donerson Hudson, Jason Hudson and seven-year-old Julian King on Tuesday (02.12.08) - is said to have been overcome with envy after seeing Julia, Jennifer's sister, receive a birthday present from her new boyfriend.

Prosecutor LuAnn Snow told a Chicago court yesterday (03.12.08) that William had arrived unannounced to Julia's workplace in early October to confront her about rumours she was seeing another man.

Speaking after the hearing, Snow added: "He told her at the time that her family would suffer if she saw other men."

However, Julia did not take Balfour's intimidation seriously as he "had not followed through on any of those threats" before.

Snow also claimed Balfour had stolen the gun from Jason Hudson in the summer, and then used it to shoot him.

Reading from a legal document, Snow told the court: "Defendant then entered the home at gunpoint. He shot Darnell Donerson several times while she was in the living room area. He then went into Jason Hudson's bedroom, where he was in bed, and shot him two times in the head.

Defendant shot Julian King in the head while the seven-year-old was laying behind the front seat of the white SUV (sports utility vehicle)."Balfour's attorney Joshua Kutnick maintains his client is innocent of the three charges of first-degree murder and one of home invasion, despite police insisting they have physical evidence linking him to the crime.Balfour, who was denied bail yesterday, is next scheduled to appear in court on December 30.

Hollywood to upgrade more celebrities to A-List status to meet demands of NBC talkshows

Latenighters With Jay Leno getting his own primetime show starting next fall on NBC and Conan O'Brien taking over "The Tonight Show," there will be a fierce battle for booking top notch star guests on the same network talkshows.

"The bottom line is that there are not enough A-Listers out there to satisfy Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien, and not to mention David Letterman," says a SAG spokesperson. "I know the focus should be on the possible work stoppage, but this Leno deal is extremely important and we want to start the upgrades right away."

SAG is going through its records of B-List stars to see which ones can get an upgrade to appear on the Conan O'Brien show.

"Leno, of course, will get all the current A-Listers because it's a prime-time show," says the SAG spokesperson. "O'Brien will get the upgrades, the new A-Listers, which some people may or may not accept as true A-Listers. But that's all we can do at this point."

Already getting upgrades are Jack Osbourne, Jason "Wee-Man" Acuna ("Jackass"), Erik Estrada and David Faustino (Bud Bundy/" with Children.")

As for Jimmy Fallon who will be taking over the "Late Night" show on NBC, it will be slim pickings. NBC is telling Fallon he will have first dibs on rejected guests from The Bonnie Hunt Show.

Failure of animated film "Delgo" shakes Hollywood to its core

Delgo It's bad enough that the Screen Actors Guild may go on strike soon, studios are trying to cope with another devastating development. The animated CGI movie "Delgo" was a massive bomb at the box office, earning just $512,000 in its first weekend of wide release, despite it being animated and having a star voice cast.

"We're in complete shock," says the film's director, Marc Adler. "I mean we did the two things were supposed to do. We had CGI animation and tons of star voices. What else were we supposed to do? This is so stunning. The same formula has worked for years. We're back to square one on this."

The star voice cast included Freddie Prinze Jr., Val Kilmer, Malcolm McDowell, Louis Gossett Jr., Eric Idle and Burt Reynolds.

"How could a film bomb with a cast like that?" asks Box Office Weekly editor David Heisler. "I mean, Christ Kattan was in it. I hear a few studios are now going to extremes by trying to add quality storylines to the animation and star voice cast. The situation is that desperate right now."
